Back when I was just a programmer, what annoyed me most was naming all kinds of files and variables in my code.
I would often scribble a few random names on a piece of paper, spin a pen on the desk, and just go with whichever one it pointed to — simple and crude.
Later, when I became a content creator, the biggest headache every time I started a new account became naming it.
“This name is nice… that one seems okay too…” I would agonize for a day or two, and in the end I still had to rely on the pen-and-paper spin, letting fate decide for me.
Then I realized that more and more things in life needed a “help from above.”
What to eat, what to wear, which thing to do first… I found myself using pen and paper to make random choices more and more often, but doing it that way every time was quite a hassle.
Sometimes I didn’t want to see the options and had to spin the pen with my eyes closed;
other times I wished a certain option had a higher chance of winning, but I didn’t want to just pick it outright;
and sometimes, when the option chosen by fate wasn’t really what I wanted, I couldn’t help but spin a few more times to see which one got picked the most…
Humans are such strange creatures, hahaha.
So I built a little web page just for letting “fate choose for me.” In this page, I added a few small features:
- You can hide the options and just click with your eyes closed.
- You can adjust the weight of each option to make a certain one a bit “luckier.”
Later on, I noticed that there were some choices I had to make frequently, so I pulled them out into separate tools: a random letter picker, a random country picker, a random color picker… and as I kept adding more, it evolved into the Spinner Wheel site you see today.
But in the end, something suddenly dawned on me: the answer you choose actually has no necessary connection to the real outcome of things.
No choice is bad. What matters has never been the option itself, but the process, and whether I regret that choice.
I realized this website isn’t really about helping me make the “right” decision; it’s about helping me start as soon as possible. That’s what matters most.
I hope this website can also help you start quickly on what you want or need to do.
Once you’ve started, you’re already halfway there.
